(ENSF) ENSF declines 6 EAC posts: In a significant development, Eastern Naga Students’ Federation (ENSF) Monday disclosed that it has decided to withdraw six EAC posts allotted to eastern Nagas by the state government through special recruitment drive. “The eastern Nagas having serious concern on peaceful coexistence amongst the Nagas hereby withdraw six EAC posts allotted to eastern Nagas by the state government in this special recruitment drive,” stated a release issued by ENSF vice president Likhumse Sangtam and general secretary Changsang Soted.

ENSF has directed all aspiring candidates of the six tribes of eastern Nagaland viz.Chang, Konyak, Sangtam, Phom, Yimchungru and Khiamniungan to withdraw their documents and abstain from the recruitment process.  Further, it also appealed to the aspiring candidates of six tribes of eastern Nagaland to bear with the inconveniences arising out of the decision.

ENSF has also requested the state government and the NPSC to reimburse the money incurred for forms to all the candidates of the eastern Nagas. Meanwhile, the ENSF appreciating the government for framing a policy to maintain appropriate representation in NCS services by reserving ten EAC posts for “unrepresented tribes,” clarified some points with regard to the issue.

ENSF said it had already made its stand “very clear” that it neither opposed not favoured the decision of the state government for SRD. Further, it further clarified that the eastern Nagas had never asked or requested the state government for SRD.

ENSF however expressed its belief that “disparity” in employment statistics in all the department of the state was directly related to the poor or non-implementation of 25% job reservation policy of the state government in all departments for the past three to four decades. ENSF said it would always continue to address and pursue the reservation policy entitled to the eastern Nagas even in future.

Further, the ENSF appealed to the state government and the departments to strictly implement 25% job quota of the state government in letter and in spirit.

It opined that the state government, while formulating the special recruitment policy for unrepresented Naga tribes might have taken into account the reality of disparity in the employment sector of both gazette and non-gazette in all the departments as compared to the most represented Naga tribes of the state, in order to bridge the gap between the represented and unrepresented Naga tribes.

ENSF said policy of the government in allotting six EAC posts may not bring “substantial change” in the employment statistics of eastern Nagas nor would it have positive impact in solving the plights of eastern Nagas.

It regretted that the policy of special recruitment has attracted more controversy and caused misunderstanding   amongst the Naga tribes rather than bringing solutions to the problem.

Maintaining that eastern Nagas have no intention to take away the EAC posts meant for other Naga tribes of the state or any other privileges, the ENSF said it would at the same time not allow any privileges and posts meant for eastern Nagas to be taken away.
