TDMA RALLY: Tuensang District Mother Association (TDMA) staged a procession Thursday to 1 Assam Rifles camp demanding closure of a shop (wet canteen) within the camp from where alcohol was being allegedly sold.
  Earlier, TDMA gathered at the premises of Tuensang Town Baptist Church (TTBC), and after a brief programme, took out procession to 1st Assam Rifles camp to submit a memorandum addressed to DIG 7 sector Assam Rifles. The memorandum was submitted in the presence of district administration and police officers Tuensang. 

In the memorandum, TDMA demanded immediate closure of a shop run by one Chalob (Khiam) Basu who had been served with several notices to stop sale of banned items from the shop but added, she continued to ignore the demands. The memorandum was also submitted to the DC, SP and Judicial Tuensang for information and necessary action.

Around 5,000 TDMA members holding placards and banners, some of which read ‘Stop selling illegal products’, ‘Close down liquor selling shop’, ‘We demand immediate shut down of Chalob Basu wet canteen’, ‘TDMA demand to withdraw contract extension up to March 31, 2012’ staged demonstration.

In response to the  TDMA’s memorandum, the 1st Assam Rifles assured the matter would be put up to the commander 9th sector on Sept 11 and till then the “wet canteen” run by Chalob Khiam, wife of late Basu would remain closed.AR also stated that final decision on total closure of the said canteen would be taken by the commander.  The authorities of 1st Assam Rifles also said action taken on the subject would be intimated to the office of TDMA on or after Sept 12.

It may be mentioned that earlier, TDMA after conducting meeting with all women Organizations and pastors of Tuensang town on July 18, unanimously decided to issue “quit notice” basing on the agreement within July 25, but kept the matter in abeyance after it received a letter from Khiamniungan Union Tuensang Town on July 24.
