YSUK ORGANISES FRESHERS’ CUM GENERAL MEET: 22nd fresher’s social meet cum general session of Yimchunger students union kohima:  was held under the theme ‘My Society, My responsibility’ at Red Cross Conference Hall, Kohima on September 3.
Parliamentary Secretary for IPR, Economics & Statistics, R. Tohanba graced the occasion as chief guest while Member NPSC, Kioren Janger graced as guest of honour. Parliamentary Secretary for IPR, Economics & Statistics, R. Tohanba while addressing the gathering said that education is the turning point for socio-economic changes. Today with the high percentage of education in the country, people adopt to learn the proper use of perfect living, health awareness, economic stability, which includes the limit of income, expenditure and other investment, he added. Emphasising on education as the agent of change, R. Tohanba said that with the constant influence of western education, many lifestyle of today are on the footing of civilisation. However, he said the system of education today particularly Yimchunger requires the system based on morality, integrity and verify the brotherhood. Referring to the present situation in the society, Tohanba said that some people are experiencing social disunity among the brothers and sisters in the family where it affects the students to pursue their studies. He therefore urged the students to be the role model for peace and harmony and let education motivate their family and tribes to bring peace, tranquility and harmony. “Let your education be the champion of your own body or spirit to make peace as peace and unity is the only solution for perfect living in today’s world’, he said. He also said that the world is dominated by the rapid changing of scientific and modern technologies, which leads to change the living standard of the people. However he said we should not neglect to preserve our cultures and traditions and suggested that the students should preserve and survive the cultural importance, no matter how far they reach. Social disunity and hatreds won’t exist anymore if importance is given to our rich cultures, traditions and the story of the past, he added. Earlier Parliamentary Secretary, R. Tohanba congratulated the freshers who have come after passing out their HSLC and HSSLC Examination 2011. He also congratulated the general Students Body and Office bearers for their efforts to bring all the freshers together under one platform by organising such programmes to know each other through the spirit of oneness and to achieve their goals through education with strong determination.
The guest of honour, Member NPSC, Kioren Janger while encouraging the students said that students must have aim and objective and should work hard to be successful persons and further added that ‘failure is the pillar of success’ only for those who struggles. He urged the students to know their responsibilities and to be dedicated in their studies with hard labour, adding that a degree is just a certificate but only the quality and assets will lead to become someone in the society.
The other highlights of the programme included songs, short speeches, speech on behalf of senior and freshers students and special prayer for freshers. The programme was chaired by Ester Ayimlo which was attended by a huge crowd. (DIPR 03/09/11)
